Yu Seafood is quite famous in the Richmond Hill area for its quality food.
Don’t get fooled by the name. They’re much more than a high-end seafood restaurant. They also have really good dim sum!
Yu Seafood is pricier than its competitors, but you get what you pay for.
The décor is top-notch, the restaurant is very clean, and the service is fast. But more importantly, the food is freshly prepared and tastes incredible! You won’t be disappointed with this restaurant.
Their menu offers a wide selection of dim sums to choose from. With dishes that are not found in your typical dim sum restaurant. They have unique items like “red” rice noodle rolls.
The presentation looks strange at first because of the red rice noodles, but it’s actually really good. It’s essentially crispy fried dough (youtiao) wrapped inside red rice rolls with shrimps in the middle! The texture is smooth and crispy at the same time.
To avoid the long wait, we highly suggest you call and book in advance. They have VIP rooms available so that’s a huge plus for groups that prefer more privacy.
If you want to experience the next level of upscale, you can visit their second location at Yorkdale. Super fancy!

Once you step inside the restaurant, the first thing you’ll notice is its fancy interior. It’s very clean, bright, and modern. Definitely not like your average Chinese restaurant.
The ceiling is hanging with over-the-top light fixtures that shine brightly over the dining area and even the tablecloths feel extra premium.
This restaurant is operated by the same owners as Skyview Fusion Cuisine and Dragon Boat Fusion Cuisine so you know you’ll be getting quality dim sum without paying top dollars.
They have a wide selection of dim sum items to order on their menu. From staples such as har gow, siu mai, and steamed rice rolls, to sweet desserts like milk tarts.
Their feature item black sesame molten yolk buns are simply amazing. Not only are they soft and fresh, but the moment you take a small bite, the golden egg york flows out like lava. They’re delicious and Instagram-worthy. You have to order this!

This is a modern restaurant so you can expect to pay a little bit more compared to rundown Chinese restaurants. However, bear in mind that the portion sizes are also larger so price and portion size balance each other.

6. Shanghai Dim Sum

Are you bored of the same shrimp dumplings and siu mai? Why not try something new like Shanghai dim sum?
Xiao Long Bao (steamed pork soup dumplings) are famous in Shanghai dim sum restaurants. Luckily, you don’t need to fly across the ocean to get your hands on one of these delicious dumplings.
Here at Shanghai Dim Sum, the signature dish is their thinly wrapped (“silk skin”) Xiao Long Bao that is juicy and flavourful. You can choose the original pork filling or the crab and pork mix – order both!
Their pan fried juicy pork buns are also very popular – an offspring of fried dumplings and soup dumplings. They’re crispy on the outside and filled with meat and soup that will burst out as you take a bite.
Foodie Tip: Xiao long bao is stuffed with pork and filled with a (piping hot) rich broth. If you toss the entire dumpling into your mouth and bite on it, the hot soup will pour out and will burn the inside of your mouth and tongue. To avoid this common mistake, pick up the dumpling with your chopsticks and place it on a spoon. As you take a small bite, the soup will leak into your spoon for you to enjoy afterward.
If you’ve never tried Shanghai-style dim sum, you need to try it ASAP! You have no idea what you’ve been missing out on!
