With exotic spices, colourful ingredients, and irresistibly comforting taste, Indian food is one of the most intoxicating treasures in the food world. Whether you are a fan of Chicken Tikka or Palak Paneer, Indian cuisine is undoubtedly one of a kind.

In fact, scientists studied why this cuisine is so good. The answer? Indian dishes provide diverse flavours to their dishes with little to no similarities at all. Western cuisines, however, use ingredients with overlapping or similar tastes.

With an increasing number of Indian tourists and immigrants in Mississauga comes the proliferation of Indian restaurants in the city. So don’t wait to have an Indian friend to invite you to try authentic Indian food, but rather visit the best Indian restaurants in the area to sate your cravings.

Avani is a go-to Indian restaurant among locals, Indian tourists, and those already settled in Mississauga. Another Indian establishment causing a buzz in Sauga is Guru Lukshmi. This massive and modern vegan restaurant is a pocket full of culture specializing in various Indian staple food like Dosa, Sambhar, and Idly.

While they have a large seating capacity, it’s worth mentioning that this restaurant is mostly full and busy. Hence, reserving a table on their website is highly recommended before coming here. The food tastes great, is not too spicy, and is affordable.

Whether you come to spend a rambunctious gathering with friends or for a special occasion, you will have a memorable and tasty pigging out with your loved ones.

3. The Maharaja

Address: 4646 Heritage Hills Blvd #3, Mississauga, ON L5R 1Y3
Website: https://www.themaharaja.ca/

Settled on Heritage Hills Boulevard, one of the busiest and most competitive places in Mississauga, it’s pretty ironic that this upscale and first-ever Indian boutique restaurant is always bustling. It’s home to fiery South Asian authentic cuisine with Kebab, Biryani, Tikka, and Lababdar varieties the fan favourites.

With over 20 years of professional experience as the executive chef, Praveen Chilkuri, it’s enough proof that only tasty dishes come out of its kitchen. Their menu is organized with four regional Indian cuisines with a twist of modern flavours from various countries like Central Asia, Persia, the West, and Greece.

During the daytime on a weekday, though, the restaurant is closed – imagine a bar after the weekend. At night or from 5 pm to 10 pm, it transforms into a lively place full of people. However, they have early opening hours on Saturdays and Sundays, so hurry up and wear your best smart casual attire (yes, they have a dress code!) and make your weekends even better.

Do you find Indian street food in Bollywood movies appetizing? You can try them all at Chaska, the Sauga’s home of Indian street food obsession. Prepare yourself to become an Indian food explorer, as this place will treat you to a unique street food experience that comes at affordable prices and in large portions.

Chaska is committed to providing the best quality food to its guests. They offer more vegetarian varieties with ingredients sourced from local farmers, while the meats are 100% halal, and free from hormones.

According to the owner, Naveen Seth, the favourites are Tava chicken, Samosa, Kathi rolls, and Chaat. If you’re not into street foods, worry not, as they serve rice bowls and platter meals. Want to host an outdoor picnic-style event? Book their food truck now!

Address: 6660 Kennedy Rd #1, Mississauga, ON L5T 2M9

If you’re a local Indian foodie, we won’t believe you if you claim you haven’t heard Rick’s Good Eats. Located at Kennedy Road, this Indian Establishment features a fast-food diner-style restaurant with a mix of Indian and Canadian flavours (i.e., chicken mac ‘n cheese).

The service in this Indian spot is commendable. It is fast, and the servers are very welcoming and helpful. Whether you order food online or onsite, rest assured that you will get a posh treatment.

Be it the favourite Samosas or their original Punjabi burgers; every snack is served hot and fresh. What’s the best pick, you ask? The Tandoori Fried Chicken fries are a must-try!

6. Nirvana

Address: 35 Brunel Rd #5, Mississauga, ON L4Z 3E8
Website: https://www.nirvanatheflavoursofindia.com/

Nirvana is a superb place for quick brunches, large events, and long dinners. If you are looking for a grand and majestic dining place serving sumptuous and authentic Indian food, this is the place to be. Take note, though, that the luxurious experience means more dollar bills compared to take-out food. Expect to spend more on their tandoori starters, which are kind of pricey but worth every penny.

At Nirvana, you will not only make your tummy full and satisfied. Prepare to be mesmerized by their classy and aesthetic interior featuring Indian sculptures, artfully decorated walls and windows, white marble pillars, and much more.

If you’re to dine here, try these tasty picks: Tandoori Salmon, Paneer Tikka, Chicken Hariyali, and Manchurian.

7. Udupi Madras Café

Address: 265 Enfield Pl Unit 202 A&B, Mississauga, ON L5B 3Y7
Website: https://www.udupimadrascafe.ca/

Tucked away at Enfield Place, Udupi Madras Café may be challenging to find, especially for newbie diners. This artistic café is just behind the Sussex Centre, though. It is home to breakfast and snack Indian staples like Bombay Vada Pav (Potato Sandwich), Medu Vada (a sort of doughnut), and Sada Dosa (crispy crepe).

After you devour tasty Indian dishes, you deserve a cold coffee, but if you’re a tea person, we recommend Masala Chai Tea. Overall, their delectable ambiance, affordable and customizable menu, and attentive service, are worth the search.

Tip: Udupi is not the usual café full of people working on their laptops or reading through their books. This place is more of a casual eatery, mostly congested with a noisy crowd. This is not the ideal spot for those looking for a quiet dining experience.

8. Punjabi Dhaba

Address: 2855 Derry Rd E, Mississauga, ON L4T 1A6
Website: https://punjabidhaba.ca/

Nothing beats the classic. Punjabi Dhaba may have few Yelp reviews, unlike the restaurants mentioned here, but they are the most affordable and well-established restaurant satisfying Indian cravings since 2003. Located in Old Malton Village, this place features a cafeteria-style set-up featuring almost a hundred Indian cuisines.

Punjabi Dhaba is the perfect sanctuary for veg and non-veg alike, offering fresh flavours and spices for a bargain. Their dishes taste like home-cooked food in an Indian family home. Their signature dishes are the classics such as Tandoori Fish, Chicken Kebab, and Butter Chicken. Add one or two dollars to try any from their massive selection of Indian bread.

If you have just landed at Pearson Airport from India or anywhere in the world, feel free to drop by and taste authentic Indian goodies in a heartbeat!

9. Bombay Bhel

Address: 230 Commerce Valley Dr E, Thornhill, ON L3T 7Y3
Website: https://www.bbloungerestaurant.com/

While you can quickly go for the most familiar Indian cuisines like Tandoori Chicken or Fish Tikka, Bombay Bhel, aka BB Lounge, also offers less-known Indian gems under their non-vegetarian menu. Be on the lookout for their Seafood Masala and Shrimp Vindaloo – the two most in-demand popular dishes in this place that you cannot order in most Indian restaurants.

Bombay Bhel will give you a relaxing dining experience with Indian music in the background. They serve excellent Indian food that is not very spicy to accommodate international guests, but you can easily ask them to make it spicier if you love the heat.

They accept card payments, but if you pay cash, you’ll get a $10 discount. Even if money is not an issue, a foodie can relate that a food discount is a big deal. After all, you can use your extra cash to order more food!

10. Saravanaa Bhavan

Address: 4559 Hurontario St #12B, Mississauga, ON L4Z 3L9 (+more locations)
Website: https://www.saravanabhavan.ca/

Saravanaa Bhavan claims to be the “No.1 Indian Vegetarian Restaurant Chain,” and we tell you, it’s not a drill! In fact, they don’t need any introduction, as you are probably aware of their massive success. This company is a famous restaurant chain operating over 100 locations across India, Southeast Asia, Europe, North America, and more.

With that intro, you’ll know how committed they are to serving Indian cuisines (approximately more than 40 Dosa varieties and around 100 Indian dishes) to its customers. While savoury Dosa and Uttappams are their specialties, they provide comforting, lighter, and fusion dishes like bread and desserts.

Authentic yet modern, their Indian kitchen assures a gastronomic adventure through their diverse and complex flavours, from the traditional Dosa dishes to inventive milkshake varieties.
