It all began in the mid 1960s, when the Papa/Bertucci family purchased a grocery store in Toronto’s Little Italy, in hopes of providing support to their family. While running their store, they noticed the popularity of their lunch sandwiches. People were coming in for their lunch rather than groceries. This sparked an idea in them, and thus, California Sandwiches was born, quickly becoming a go-to spot for many who seek the best Italian sandwich in Toronto.
Through the popularity of their sandwiches, their business flourished and blossomed into 14 locations across Ontario and Montreal.
Their Veal Sandwich is a must-try, and is what California Sandwich is known for. The quality is outstanding! The sandwich is huge and incredibly flavourful with tender meat, tasty tomato sauce and nicely baked Kaiser buns that they get fresh daily from an Italian bakery.
They get their meat delivered to them daily, and the tomato sauce is made every day with the freshest Italian tomatoes.
The Chicken Sandwich is also well-loved by many. It is another favourite that people continuously come back for. This is the perfect sandwich for those who prefer chicken.
