Mexican cuisine is associated with hearty and cheap street food, but Chef Viri Rico takes things to the next level. When Border MX was opened in 2014, this gastro pub became the go-to place for foodies who love tacos, seafood, and beers. The establishment is not a mere eatery for quick meals nor a dingy back alley taqueria.
The restaurant’s polished décor is perfect for cozy date nights, while their lovely patio is ideal for enjoying live music during special events. Gather your amigos to try Pork Carnitas, Beef Picadillo, or everything from their massive taco menu.
The best part? Their Mexican Baja fish tacos are best paired with some tipples like Margaritas and Sangria.

Señor Burrito is the name of the game here, and you might think they only serve Burritos. Sure, Burritos are to die for, but their tacos, especially those with blood-red salsa tomato, deserve a little cry of joy. Their clientele’s usual suspects include meat and fish tacos.
The interior at Señor Burrito is nicely done, featuring wood benches and tables, colander lights, and colourfully painted walls. Dining here feels like spending the summer on a breezy veranda in Mexico – perfect for some chilled wine and spicy tacos.
But do you know what other things are commendable about this pub? Almost everything on their menu has vegetarian options. So vegans and vegetarians out there, you know where to go!

If this restaurant in Streetsville doesn’t ring a bell, you’re probably from the baby boomers’ generation. Kidding aside, El Mariachi has blown up on Tiktok because the Gen Zs are raving about this authentic Mexican restaurant. So, expect a long queue when ordering your favourite tacos.
El Mariachi deserves the hype. While social media is an added factor for its bustling crowd, it’s their dishes the reason why customers keep coming back. After all, they’ve got everything you could expect in a Mexican restaurant – loaded nachos, jugs of margaritas, and massive servings of tacos. Perfecto!
Pro Tip: Show up early because they don’t take reservations.
4. Alijandro’s Kitchen

Address: 4070 Living Arts Dr, Mississauga, ON L5B 0C3

This humble taco joint on Living Arts Dr. is a hit if you live or work nearby. Nonetheless, the trip here for a massive and delicious serving is worth the drive. The colourful teeny space boasts a tropical vibe which is truly an eye-catcher for passersby and customers alike.
It’s also worth mentioning that the prices at this lowkey restaurant are more affordable than other Mexican spots, but the food is equally delicious and authentic. Highlights include their Taboon taco with numerous flavours like Halloumi Cheese, Spicy Beans, BBQ Chipotle Beef, and more.
Their tacos, which 2 or 3 people can enjoy, are served hot, filled with lettuce, pico de gallo, mint, and a sauce of choice. Overall, their tacos are great, kid-tested, and mothers-approved, as they say.

Address: 35 Brunel Rd, Mississauga, ON L4Z 3E8
Website: http://elsombrero.ca/Welcome/
Are you feeling hungry? While a grab-and-go kind of taco is super convenient, it’s good to have at least one authentic Mexican restaurant for your taco fix. Grab a seat outdoors for a more Mexican experience and take your order from the menu filled with words you haven’t probably read before.
El Sombrero is one of the real Mexican restaurants in town. It is undoubtedly hard to miss as you wander the quiet neighbourhood of Brunel Rd. A must-try: the tacos in meat and veggie varieties. Oh, and if you’re a fan of nachos or burritos, we advise you pair them with spicy sauce – they will surely satisfyingly burn your tummy.
Wash all the calories down with a glass of beer or wine for a hearty Mexican meal.
6. La Carnita

Website: https://www.lacarnita.com/
Dining here for some tacos is a no-brainer. But if you’re on the hunt for pre- and post-work drink spots, La Carnita is your go-to. This trendy taqueria has frequent local customers who come here not only for tacos but for other Mexican dishes.
For your taco cravings, try out their Chorizo Taco, Baja Shrimp Taco, and Carne Asado Taco – they offer many taco options, but these are our favourites. Their menu may seem meat-focused but look closer and you will find various selections of vegetarian options.
La Carnita is also the best place to unwind after work because it won’t leave a gaping hole in your wallet. And if you want to save more, grab some tacos and shots of tequila during their happy hour every day from 4 pm to 6 pm.
Drink moderately, though, unless you want to salsa on your way out!
7. El Jefe

Address: 66 Lakeshore Rd E, Mississauga, ON L5G 1E1
Website: https://eljefepc.com/
El Jefe is a lively spot – well because it’s not only a restaurant but also a cocktail bar. If you’re unfamiliar with Mexican cuisine, we have to say that a Mexican restaurant is not “authentic Mexican” without the booze. This is indeed the best Mexican restaurant to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.
The quesadillas, enchiladas, and even churros at this establishment are next level. However, the real stand out, of course, is the dish you’re looking for – tacos. The Carnitas Duo, which consists of huge pieces of slow-cooked pork wrapped in tortillas and topped with salsa verde and pico de gallo, is a surefire hit.
Don’t forget to order: Ceviche de Camaron, which is as enticing as it sounds.
